Winnipeg saw a disappointingly low voter turnout in this year’s municipal election. Voters in favour of progressive change didn’t provide adequate support for the candidates that represented their interests. However, the low voter turnout points to the fact that none of the candidates represented the majority of the Winnipeg voters.
- Winnipeg population (2001 census): 619,544
- Number of eligible voters: 448,096
- Number of voters who cast a vote for Sam Katz: 104,379
- Number of voters who didn’t vote for Sam Katz: 343,717
- Percentage of eligible voters who didn’t vote for Sam Katz: 76.7%
Thus less than 1 out of every 4 Winnipeg voters gave Sam Katz their support.
